Death Cafe - honouring and remembering

Honoured my Mum 27/9/26 on her 86th 🎈🎂+ a mum or two of friends/mentors by holding my Death Cafe on the same day, and in Roma Street Parklands. We ate cupcakes which Mum once made and loved to eat. She also made scones, biscuits, big cakes of all types, other desserts. Mum was a very good pastry cook also, plus, her rissoles, jams, stews, soups, roasts...😋 were to die for, pardon the pun! LC joined me from 11 am. We discussed Advanced Care Planning ACP + people's skepticism or dismissal of ACP, through generations. 'The Art of Dying Well' by Katy Baker was briefly summarised. Discussion also arose about: Medical and Aged Care Systems (good and bad points of preserving life, costs, providers etc.) Ordinary dying (not like the movies/TV) and Health Workers attitudes, poor or lack of honest communication to reduce fear and increase the dying and family understanding of what to expect, what is normal. VAD got a mention as did many Australia wide advocacy groups to assist the living and dying. People knowing their options and choosing to die their way as much as humanly possible was at the heart of matters. love Kate www.swansongjourney.com.au
