There is nothing wrong with a beautifully designed Bible study.

I love a good journal page. I enjoy thoughtful questions. And I will never complain about an excuse to use a

pen that writes smoothly.

But Bible study is not ultimately about completing pages. It is about learning to understand the Word of God.

Sometimes we become so focused on finding the “right” answer for the blank that we forget to stop and ask

whether we understand the passage itself.

We search for the inspirational line.

We look for the verse that applies to our current situation.

We underline something that sounds meaningful.

And we may do all of that before we have asked one very important question:

What is actually happening here?

Flourish By Faith uses a simple process:

The order matters.

Application without comprehension can become assumption.

Interpretation without context can become imagination.

And a beautifully completed journal page is not necessarily the same thing as faithfully understanding

Scripture.

This approach may feel slower than some Bible studies you have completed before.

That is intentional.

We are not rushing toward a tidy takeaway. We are learning to sit with the text, notice what is there, ask

better questions, and allow Scripture to shape our conclusions.

You are not simply completing a study.

You are learning how to study.

And once you develop that skill, you can carry it with you into every book of the Bible you read.

Try This Today:

Choose a short passage and read it without highlighting anything.

Afterward, write down only what you can clearly observe:

• Who is present?

• What happened?

• What words or ideas are repeated?

• Is a command, promise, warning, question, or contrast included?

Do not rush to explain it yet.

For now, simply notice.

Flourish Together

What usually happens first when you study: observation, interpretation, or application?
