Style of tote? Attached or detachable lids?

I'm going to show my ignorance here. Still new and researching. It seems like most people here are using the milk crate-style of totes with the hinged/attached lids. But I've seen lots of businesses that use the detachable lids. I've used the hinged lids for moves at work. Personally, the removable lid boxes seem sturdier if the boxes are less than full. But more than that, it seems like you can run on a moment's notice to your local big box store and get more if you find yourself out of inventory or in growth mode. Whereas I think you would have to order the milk crate-style totes and wait for them to be shipped. I'm guessing people will say that the hinged lid crates are higher quality and more durable. Or not? What am I missing? Thanks!
